Jonathan Lipnicki and Richard E. Grant star. There's something a little odd about a kid who actively wants to be a vampire. However little Jonathan Lipnicki - an American kid being bullied by his British school mates - seems to think it'll be a valid solution to his problems. Doesn't he watch Buffy? Actually the story for this pre-dates Sarah Michelle Gellar's heroine by quite some time based on a series of classic children's novels by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg here you'll have to come to terms with the fact that the vampire slayer is the bad guy. So we have a little tyke who befriends a bunch of friendly vampires who are trying to turn back into humans. This is pretty much the whole plot but things tick along quite nicely. Lipnicki is a little on the cute side but his toothy counterpart (Rollo Weeks) easily makes up for it. His family (which includes Richard E. Grant and Alice Krige) are a gothic bunch who it turns out dine on cows blood so as not to harm anyone - they're just misunderstood you see? Quite clearly not seeing is the despicable vampire killer Rookery (Jim Carter) who is intent on skating the family before they turn human and he goes out of business. Visually impressive and armed with some very nice special effects (in particular the marvelous vampire cattle) The Little Vampire is fairly undemanding family fun. ...
